About to head off to your new gym and are not sure what to expect? These four tips will help it go smoothly.
Warm up
Pretty obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people skip the warmup phase. And if you’ve not worked out for a while, getting straight into it is a one way ticket to snap city. Get your body battle-ready.
Don’t overdo it
You may feel compelled to start at the deep end by stacking up the weights and hoping your body will hold. No, no. Use your first week at the gym to test the waters by starting light and working on correct posture.
Besides, the other gym-goers are too busy with their own workouts to judge you.
Ask for help
Most gyms have helpers on hard. Asking for posture/exercise advice is a great way to both improve your workouts and settle into the gym culture. They are experts and will jump at the chance to help you out.
Hydrate
Water goes in, water goes out. You know the importance of staying hydrated, so remember to keep a bottle with you so you don’t have to walk halfway across the room to the fountain every few sets.
